Executive Director, Sage Hill Writing Experience (Saskatoon, SK): Application deadline: February 26. The Sage Hill Writing Experience is a renowned summer residential writing program that draws students from across Canada, offering learning opportunities for writers at varying stages of development in a unique environment in the beautiful Qu'Appelle Valley. Spring and summer programs provide writers with outstanding professional development opportunities at several levels in fiction, poetry and other creative writing disciplines.

Kent Cottage at Landfall: Writer in Residence 2010 (Brigus, NL): Deadline: February 28, 2010. Landfall Trust Inc. is a registered charity established through the legacy of Bradley Jacob Folensbee, Jr. (Jake)–a dedicated educator, artist, photographer, writer and musician. The Trust shares Jake's vision for the preservation and conservation of Kent Cottage and the surrounding 11 acres that constitute Landfall, located in Brigus, Conception Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador ( http://www.landfalltrust.org/).

The Trust is now inviting Expressions of Interest from established writers who are residents of Newfoundland and Labrador and are interested in the 2010 two-week Writer in Residence program from September 11-24, 2010.

During this two-week period, the successful applicant will be supported through the use of the fully equipped cottage, free of charge, as an inspirational setting for his or her writing, with an expectation that there will be a public presentation of work forthcoming during or after the residency.

Interested writers should apply in writing to the Landfall Trust. Applications should include:
  • A current resume, including information related to your writing, publishing and experience in public and educational programming.
  • A proposal for a public presentation in an area school or community library. Some financial support may be available through the Visiting Artists Program of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, see http://www.nlac.ca/
  • An explanation of how this residency would contribute to the objectives of the Landfall Trust and your work as a writer.
Deadline for submission is February 28, 2010, and submissions may be emailed to admin@landfalltrust.org.

New Screen–Call for Proposals: Application deadline: Received by March 5. New Screen, a program designed to support and encourage creators in their exploration of short format across a variety of screens, is a partnership between the National Film Board of Canada and the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation.

Approved projects will push the boundaries of traditional storytelling through the creative application of digital platforms, including, but not limited to, web and mobile broadcast and interactive media. Preference will be given to original ideas; however, New Screen will also consider short projects inspired by longer formats. Story content is key and proposals will be chosen within the context of NFB’s programming as a public producer.

In its first year, the New Screen fund is $65,000. The program will produce a minimum of one and a maximum of three projects, depending on timelines and production ambitions. Examples of digital projects, including some NFB-produced projects, can be found online at http://www.doclab.org/projects.

Please submit a complete project proposal including: 1-2 page description, clearly stating the project’s concept, execution and timeline, and intended audience; preliminary budget breakdown; up-to-date CV of the personnel involved; support material if available.
