Writers' Alliance of Newfoundland & Labrador

The Writers' Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador hosts, and collaborates with other organizations to facilitate a variety of readings series throughout the province.

2013 Spring Tides Reading Series - Call for Expressions of Interest

Spring Tides is an annual reading series held between March and June (inclusively), that showcases new and established writers. The series presents four to five readings - two in St. John’s and two to three readings elsewhere in the province - featuring two writers each. Each featured writer reads for approximately 20 minutes and participates in a brief Q & A following the reading. WANL provides an honorarium of $125 to each reader.

WANL seeks expressions of interest (EOI) from writers who would like to participate in this series during 2013. Preference will be given to writers who have a recently published book. (Please note: Submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee you a reading spot in this series.)

  • Participation in this series is open only to WANL members in good standing. If you are not a current WANL member or your membership has lapsed, you may join or renew at the time you submit an EOI;
  • Writers who read in this series in 2012 are not eligible.

    Submissions guidelines

    Expressions of interest must include:
  • Mailing address, telephone and email;
  • An up-to-date list of publications and readings;
  • The month(s) between March 2013 and June 2013 (inclusive) that you are available to read.

    Submissions that do not contain ALL of the requested information will be deemed ineligible.

    EOIs should be submitted to the attention of the Readings Committee at:
      Writers’ Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador
      223 Duckworth Street, Suite 202
      St. John’s, NL, A1C 6N1

      Email: wanl@nf.aibn.com
    Readers will be chosen and confirmed in February 2013.

    Submissions deadline: Postmarked no later than Friday, January 25, 2013.

    Spring Tides Reading Series Call For Local Volunteer Organizers

    The WANL Readings Committee is also interested in hearing from WANL members who would like to act as local organizers for a Spring Tides Reading in their community. Expressing interest in this regard does not guarantee that a reading will be held in your community, but it will help the committee to get a sense of where there might be support for an event. Interested volunteer organizers should contact wanlassist@nf.aibn.com by Friday, January 25, 2013.

    Come From Away Reading Series

    The Writers’ Alliance Come From Away Reading Series concluded this November after a fantastic season. As always, the WANL Readings Committee asked three Newfoundland authors to invite three "Come-From-Away" authors to read on the Rock. The 2012 series heard readings in both Corner Brook and St. John's, of some of Canada's best literary talents: Karen Solie was invited by Mark Callanan; Dionne Brand was invtied by Stephanie MacKenzie; Alistair MacLeod was invited by Tom Dawe.

    Stay tuned for the 2013 series!
