Kelli-ann Maidment Blackwood was born in Newfoundland, Canada, in 1974. An avid reader from the very young age of three, Kelli-ann always wanted to be a writer, and her first 'book' consisted of crudely drawn pictures of the Easter Bunny and one of her favourite cartoon characters talking about candy. She was six. At age nine, she 'sold' her first poem, entitled "Autumn," for the incredible sum of $2. "Autumn" received Honourable Mention in a regional contest, Kelli-ann's first of two such childhood honours. Though she never attempted to publish them, Kelli-ann has since written dozens of poems, short stories, essays, short plays, and scripts, and even began a few different novels in the genres of horror, romance, and adventure. Muriel Munn and the Door in the Wall, a fantasy for older children, is her first completed novel and she hopes it will be published and available to the public in the near future. Kelli-ann is also hard at work on another novel for children and has other projects in mind, including a graphic novel for teenage girls and fiction for adults. Educated at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Kelli-ann holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and History and a Bachelor of Intermediate and Secondary Education. She resides in Newfoundland with her husband and her 'children'–the characters of her written work. Though she has yet to find the key to a secret world like the one in her novel, she continues to hope she will someday discover one. |
