The Newfoundland and Labrador Book Awards are presented by the Writers' Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador and by the Literary Arts Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador under the distinguished patronage of The Honourable John C. Crosbie, PC, OC, ONL, QC, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. They are financed by corporate and private sponsors.

This is the 14th consecutive year for the awards, which are biennial, covering a two-calendar-year publishing period. The pairings are Children's/Young Adult Literature and Fiction in one year, and Poetry and Non-fiction the next year. Awards are presented each spring.

Two reading events featuring shortlisted authors

Wednesday, May 12 at 3:30 p.m.
A.C. Hunter Children's Library, Arts & Culture Centre
Readings by Bruneau Family Children's/Young Adult Literature Award finalists Tom Dawe, Andy Jones and Janet Russell.

Thursday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Second floor, Downhome Shoppe & Gallery, 303 Water Street
Readings by Downhome Fiction Award finalists Jessica Grant and Lisa Moore.

Both events, hosted by local author Mike Heffernan, are free to attend and will include a reception following the readings. Books will be available for purchase.
