Sara Tilley Winner of the First Annual Fresh Fish Award for Emerging Writers

Sara Tilley is the winner of the Fresh Fish Award for Emerging Writers, sponsored by Brian O'Dea and administered by the Writers' Alliance of Newfoundland and Labrador. The announcement was made by Mr O'Dea at the Writers' Alliance AGM Banquet held Oct 21 in St John's. Ms Tilley was presented with a check for $4,000 and a miniature sculpture in the style of "Man Nailed to a Fish" by sculptor Jim Maunder. She also receives the editing services of a professional editor valued at up to $1,000 for her winning manuscript, Snowflake Young.

Mr O'Dea also presented each of the two runners-up, Degan Davis and Claire Wilkshire, with a check for $1,000.

A total of 37 manuscripts were read by judges Susan Rendell, Joan Sullivan and Leslie Vryenhoek.
