If you’d like to hire JoAnne for a writing project, please visit our Writers for Hire page for more info.
JoAnne Soper-Cook was born in Old Perlican, Newfoundland and grew up in Hant’s Harbour. She published her first story at the age of 8 when her mother, impressed with the quality of a short story she’d written for a school project, sent it in to a local newspaper.
Since then she has published 27 novels, various novellas, short stories, plays, speeches, radio scripts and some really, really bad poetry. She holds a B.A. (Honors) and a M.A. in English Literature from Memorial University and a B.Ed, also from Memorial. Currently, JoAnne is a contract editor for several publishers in the United States and Canada, including Dreamspinner Press, Boroughs Publishing, and Simon & Schuster. To date she has edited in excess of 800 manuscripts.
When she isn’t writing she loves reading (pulp, mystery, and psychological thrillers are her favourite genres) walking, travel, cooking, and cleaning the house. She makes her home in St. John’s, Newfoundland, with her husband Paul and her spoiled rotten ‘dogter’ Lola.
