Lifetime Member/Volunteer of the Year

Lifetime Member 2022: Lisa Moore

Lisa Moore has written three collections of short stories, Degrees of Nakedness, Open, and her most recent publication Something for Everyone, which won the Alistair MacLeod Prize for Short Fiction and the Thomas Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award and was long-listed for the Giller.
She is also the author of three novels: Alligator, February and Caught. Lisa’s new novel, This Is How We Love
was published in May 2022.
Her fiction has been translated into French, Italian, Spanish, German, Turkish and Greek.
Lisa is also the co-librettist for the opera February, along with Laura Kaminsky, commissioned by Opera on the Avalon. She teaches creative writing in the English Department of Memorial University.

Lisa is also the editor of short story collections: Racket (Breakwater Books); Us,
Now (Breakwater Books); and Hard Ticket (Breakwater Books) and co-editor of the anthology of essays, along with Stephen Crocker: Muskrat Falls: How a Megadam became a Predatory Formation (Memorial University Press).

 


Volunteer of the Year 2022: Samm Joy

Samm Joyy is a local poet and a lover of arts. She is currently finishing her diploma in Office Administration while working multiple jobs within the field.
Samm was the long-standing host of Spoken Word St. John’s Poetry Open Mic events, and a member of the SWSJ community for 9 years. Before that, she was the Arts Editor for The Muse newspaper and a freelance journalist in the city.
She has been on the WANL Events Committee for two years and is continuing in that role with WANL.
