(December 19, 2022) – As we head into the final week ahead of the holidays, we’d like to celebrate with all of you, by toasting to the talent of WANL’s membership base.

To commemorate this holiday season and rejoice in the beauty of winter, we asked WANL Members to submit their original fiction, non-fiction, prose, or poetry, with an open theme of “holidays, winter, family traditions and celebrations, and more.”

A huge thanks to everyone who submitted – the jury had a tough job selecting just five pieces out of the numerous wonderful works we received!

And the 2022 Winter E-Zine winners are…

?1st Place, $125:  A Winter Adventure by Olive Fortune (a Youth Member!)
? 2nd Place, $100: Seasons Greetings from the Bay by Manaar Shahabuddin
? 3rd Place, $75: The Sparkle by Elizabeth Murphy
Runner up, $50: My First Christmas by Tzu-Hao Hsu
Runner up, $50: When Happy Met Sally by Lindsey Harrington

Celebrate Winter Traditions with a WRITING contest from WANL!

(November 14, 2022) – As we did in 2021, we’re celebrating the holidays this year by toasting to our local authors! To commemorate the busy holiday season – with Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, the New Year, and more – we want to read YOUR stories!

Our 2022 theme is open to many interpretations – holidays, winter, family traditions and celebrations, and more.
We accept fiction, non-fiction, prose, poetry – all formats are welcome for submission.

The top submissions will be compiled into a holiday/winter-themed e-zine, to be distributed electronically to WANL’s membership base – now boasting over 450 members… That’s almost 1,000 eyes reading your work!

In this E-Zine, WANL will print five stories, with prizes for the top submissions:

? 1st Place: $125
? 2nd Place: $100
? 3rd Place: $75
Our two runners-up will receive $50 each.

Contest Details:

– Contest is open to WANL Members only.
– Limited to one entry per person.
– Entries, regardless of format, can be a maximum of 500 words.
– Poets can submit more than one poem, up to 500 words.
– Winter E-Zine 2021 winners are ineligible for entry.
– All identifying markers will be removed from entries, to be submitted to a jury who will select the top readings.

Submit your stories to info@wanl.ca, using the subject line “Winter E-Zine.”

Deadline for entries: 5 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022.

The e-zine will be released digitally on Monday, December 19, 2022.

 


 

Merry Christmas from WANL to you and yours! ???❄️?

Our holiday gift to you is our 2021 Winter E-Zine – we gave WANL Members an exclusive look when we sent out the magazine on December 22, but we wanted to share the holiday cheer with all of our followers and supporters.

For this E-Zine, Members submit creative works revolving around our 2021 theme: holidays, winter, family traditions and celebrations, and more, through fiction, non-fiction, prose, and poetry, up to 500 words.

We received ~30 submissions from longtime and brand new members! Check out the top five! ❄️?☃️
